About Katie Egger Makris, President

Katie Egger Makris, President, is a native Washingtonian originally from Burke, VA. While she started out her career with a brief stint in luxury retail with both Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue, Katie has spent most of her time in fundraising, working most recently as a Director with Orr Group, and prior to that, a Major Gifts Officer for the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region. Additionally, she has spent time at Ford’s Theatre, and the National MS Society, National Capital Chapter. She’s led everything from luncheons and galas, to mass-market bike, walk, and running events, to major gifts, board strategy, corporate fundraising, and grant and appeal writing.  In her event experience Katie has worked with small, intimate sponsor dinners and receptions, all the way up to galas bringing in more than 1100 people and grossing over $3M. Katie became part of the non-profit world when she started as a volunteer silent auction coordinator with the National MS Society many years ago, and found herself hooked from the first day on the job. She loves connecting great organizations to passionate supporters through top-notch events and building strong relationships.

Katie is an alumnus of Michigan State University, and a huge Spartan and DC sports fan. She spends much of her free time swimming, biking, and running, as a three-time Ironman triathlete, 15 time marathoner, dabbler in gravel riding and cyclocross, endurance coach to pregnant and postpartum women at pursuit endurance, and active member of District Multisport Triathlon team. Katie lives in the Michigan Park neighborhood of Washington, DC with her husband, Michael, 5 year old son, Elias, 2 year old son, Emett, dog, Ezra, and cat, Jameson.
